One of cairo's most popular tourist spots is the khan el khalili market . it is named for a high mamluk official who built a caravanserai here,in the center of the old fatimid city in 1382.for sale are spices,souvenirs,clothes,antiques,jewelary and perfumes .originally the market was divided into areas according to guilds,however today you can find jewelary shops and even a butcher in the textile section.inside the market are many traditional coffeehouses,made famous by the descriptions of nobel prize winner Naguib Mahfouz,restaurants and stalls selling streets foods, Although tourist-oriented , many locals come here to buy jewelary and traditional artworks.
